Perhaps the best place to start is with a walk.

Mine began on May 1, 2026, with the simple intention of talking to people and learning how they came to know the Fife coast. The path, however, had other ideas. It turned out to be more than a ribbon of earth beside the sea; it was a place stitched together by memory, weather, routine, and the people who return to it again and again.

This website gathers fragments from that journey: field notes, sketches, photographs, overheard conversations, and the occasional feeling that refused to stay on the page. They're less a record than an invitation.

Wander a little. Linger where something catches.

And perhaps leave believing, as I do, that the places we know best are the places we're most willing to care for.

About the Study

Research & Reflections

I'm a graduate student at the University of St Andrews, where I'm completing an MSc in Global Sustainable Development. I'm deeply interested in the ways our relationships with place shape how we care for the natural world, and I hope to pursue a career that bridges the social and environmental sides of sustainability.

This project is part of my final degree research, exploring the question: How can walking-based storytelling along the Fife Coastal Path foster local connection and environmental stewardship?

To explore it, I walked the entire Fife Coastal Path, meeting local people along the way and listening to the stories, memories, and everyday experiences that shape their connection to this coastline.
